Intuit drops ball
Add Quickbooks for Mac to the list of programs that won’t run on the forthcoming version of Lion, the latest operating system for Apple computers,
Intuit announced this week that no version of Quickbooks for Mac is compatible with OS X (10.7), though Quickbooks 2010 will mostly work. I don’t run my business on “mostly.”
The only Intuit product known to be completely compatible is the wimpy Quicken Essentials for Mac.
Though the new OS has no compelling features that we’ve seen, Mac users tend upgrade. That would be a mistake for those of you running Intuit products.
If you use Quickbooks for Mac and must upgrade, take a look at AccountEdge. It’s better than Quickbooks in many respects and there is a mobile version for iPhones/iPads.
If you use Quicken for Mac and must upgrade to Lion, take a look at Moneydance. It, too, has a mobile version for IOS devices.
If you want to see Intuit’s rationale for the latest issue, check here. Don’t worry, Apple used a similar rationale when charging for an upgrade to certain Mac notebooks a few years back.
Oh, if you’re reading this after upgrading, give us a call. We’ll help recover your data.
Cordially,
Steven
