Don't buy the ATT iPad
Do not buy the ATT version of the new iPad.
Yes, it’s gorgeous, it’s fast and the Apple fanboys will drool, but it has a slight flaw.
ATT.
Yes, once again ATT has had Apple cripple the iPad, removing a useful feature.
Both the Verizon and ATT versions of the iPad cost the same and will work globally and in the United States. But the Verizon version of the iPad will allow you to use it as a mobile WiFi hotspot, allowing up to five devices to use the iPads fast LTE cellular connection. Verizon’s least expensive data plan, $20, gives you 1GB per month, a far better deal that ATT’s low-end plan.
ATT doesn’t support WiFi tethering and it’s low-end plan is a paltry 250MB
If you already bought the ATT version, you have 14 days from the date of purchase to return it. If you had it personalized by Apple with the laser engraving on the back, they won’t take it back, but otherwise, grab all the stuff it came with and head to the Apple store (or wherever you bought it) and swap it for the Verizon version.
Thanks for the shout-out from Byte.com. As you can see from the video (which doesn’t play on iPads), it’s nice. As you may hear in the audio, it’s the ATT version. Twenty-four hours after I purchased, Verizon announced that it would allow the hotspot tethering.
