Update, update, update
It seems like it has been the update-of-the-hour club lately, what with all the patches, updates and fixes being pushed out by Adobe, Microsoft and Oracle.
Microsoft has done a stellar job of protecting its software (at least on versions of Windows shipped after XP), but still needs to push out updates. It’s a good idea to check Windows Update periodically and install the updates listed as Critical and often those listed as Optional. If you can’t find Windows Update under All Programs or under the Control Panel, just go to help and type in Windows Update.
Since Microsoft has improved the security of its products, those who write malicious software target other products, notably Flash and Java.
To see if you have the latest version of Flash, follow this link. It will tell you if you have Flash installed and if so, what version and if it is up-to-date.
