MobileMe and iCloud

If you use Apple’s MobileMe services -- for Windows or the Macintosh -- do not blithely switch over to iCloud.

MobileMe is going away shortly and you are going to be forced into the move, but it is not always a smooth process.

Don’t end up like my client in Prague who lost all access to her email because she didn’t read the warnings and requirements.

When it says you need to be on a certain level of the operating system for your Mac, iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Windows Vista or Windows 7, those aren’t suggestions.

Macintosh users should be especially careful. There were more services available on MobileMe for the Macintosh, and many of them have no counterpart in iCloud.

If you have a website hosted through MobileMe, immediately start looking for another hosting service, otherwise you will lose it on June 30, 2012. That’s three months from now. If it is a business website, you need to start moving you lose your place on the Web.

Mac users also should be on Lion, but many programs don’t run on Lion. Learn how to
check the programs you use and make sure they will make the transition.
